Antique Old Mine Cut Diamonds are a rare breed in themselves, finding such Diamonds in natural fancy colors is a much rarer event.
Presently Antique Diamonds are found mainly in the lighter to darker yellowish/cape colors. Most of the colorless and fancy colored ones were re-shaped into modern faceting due to the natural cut evolution ongoing for the last century (More on this Here).
This beautiful “old charm” Old Mine Cut was cut and polished from a very rare colored rough Diamond. Designed into an elongated Old Mine Cut of almost half carat, and which displays a prominent *“pure-gold” color, a hue which is extremely rare and sought after.
We tested and found the color being of a medium-deep toned yellow, Old Mine Cut Diamonds reflect larger flashes due to their brilliant faceting design, those larger flashes reflect light back to its viewer through the yellow Diamond material displaying colored flash events resembling the color of pure 24kt gold.
Unlike their modern fancy colored Diamond counterparts which are designed and cut to exhibit color retention at the cost of light return, this Diamond was cut to display its genuine body color and was not compromised as far as its play-of-light potential. It exhibits a balance of both.
This Old Mine Cut displays a beautiful high crown which blends with its small table emphasizing its three dimensional sculptured effect, a treat which allows visual enjoyment of its rare color from all directions. Like with most of our Diamonds, this one also possesses an elongated polished culet which is responsible for the prominent “Kozibe” effect, a reflective spread of the open culet through the crown area of the Diamond.
*GIA graded this Diamond as a Fancy Deep Brownish Yellow. We must admit that we tested this Diamond in many different lighting environments and couldn’t pick up on the brown tone mentioned in the report, We will let our clients be the judge on this call.
