Taking pictures of emeralds has always been a great challenge, more so when they origin from Colombia because of their high Chromium content.
This beautiful 3.62 carat antique emerald is no exception…, as much as I tried to relay its true color and luster the less it participated with my attempts.
This emerald contains a darker bodied, deep color that showcases its pure green in most natural lightings. Deep within its beautiful water, we are able to see some of its jardin inclusions resembling the views we get when looking deep in green water lakes. A pure optical delight.
Estimated to have been shaped and polished around the early 1900’s, one cant help but sense the Art-Deco geometry possessing two step-facet rows contouring a very small table, a signature characteristic portraying this very special era. Even though crafted about a century ago, its old craftsmanship, although a bit wobbly, is superb and evidence to the importance of the lapidarist craft.
A very fine, evenly spread patina across most facet junctions of this gem adds an old world allure and character which further confirms its unique old-cut status. This gem was never set in a jewel for the decades we have owned it.
