Gems & Jewelry Myths - 01

I was surprised to learn many years ago that there is a general assumption that green emeralds need to be set in a warm colored metal preferably yellow gold as it compliments and can enhance the green emerald color.. (kind of like setting yellow diamonds exclusively in yellow gold).

Throughout the years I would see so many beautiful emeralds from the most exquisite Maison’s set in such fashion almost systematically and never really fully understood this unspoken rule.

My take in general, if the gem is beautiful in its own right, it will stay beautiful in any metal color combination you chose…, my priority would be to present it truthfully as I visualize it myself.

In the picture: An antique Colombian emerald set in platinum further embellished by a custom cut, tapered suite of icy colorless French Cut diamonds.
Don’t know about you folks, for me personally…, I am having a hard time envisioning them in yellow gold..
